STRAWBERRY PLANTS
MONTEREY VARIETY
Strongly neutral variety, with abundant flowering. It presents a stable production with a behavior similar to the Albion variety.
Market: Very good aptitude for the fresh market since it is a variety that produces fruits with an outstanding sweetness, also for agro-industry (frozen).
Plant: Larger, with rapid initial vegetative growth, so it must be planted with adequate temperatures (above 12°C in the soil), this with the aim of not presenting an excess of vegetative growth, which could delay the entry into production.
Management: In fresh plant, increase the supply of nitrogen in the first stage of cultivation at the time of establishment of the orchard. The fertilization requirement (NPK-Ca-Mg) in the production stage is between 25 to 30% higher compared to the Albion variety, a relevant aspect to maintain the fruit size.
Fruit: Even external red color with red pulp. Firm fruit with good post-harvest life.
Diseases and pests: adequate tolerance to rain (Botrytis), with a certain degree of susceptibility to powdery mildew. Sensitive to thrips and mites.
Planting density: 62,000 plants/Ha (27 cm between plants).
Yield potential: 81 Ton/Ha (agricultural season, 9-month period).
